How to Open the Extension
Most common question - here's how to find it
Find the puzzle icon
Look for the puzzle piece icon in your Chrome toolbar (top-right corner, next to the address bar).
Click the RCP icon
Find 'Right Click Prompt' in the list and click its icon. This opens the extension panel.
Pin for easy access (optional)
Click the pin icon next to RCP to keep it visible in your toolbar.
Tip: The extension icon looks different from the old V1 icon. Look for the red "RCP" logo, not the white six-pointed star.
Automatic Migration
Recommended
Open the extension
Click the puzzle icon in Chrome's toolbar, then click the Right Click Prompt icon. If you have V1 prompts, you'll see a "Welcome to V2" message.
Review your data
The welcome modal shows how many folders and prompts were found. This is your V1 data ready to migrate.
Sign up to sync
Click "Sign up to sync to the cloud". Create your account and your prompts will be uploaded automatically.
Done!
Your prompts are now synced across all your devices. Access them from the dashboard or any Chrome browser.
Manual Export/Import
From Extension
- 1Update your extension: go to chrome://extensions/ and click 'Update' at the top
- 2Click the puzzle icon in Chrome's toolbar (top-right)
- 3Click the Right Click Prompt icon to open the extension panel
- 4Click "Export" at the bottom of the panel
- 5Save the JSON file to your computer
- 6Create an account at rightclickprompt.com
- 7Click "Import" in the dashboard header
- 8Select your backup file
From Dashboard
- 1Log into rightclickprompt.com
- 2Click "Import" in the header
- 3Select any JSON backup (V1, V2, or generic format)
- 4Watch the progress toast as folders import
- 5Your prompts appear in "My Prompts"
Important Notes
- Your V1 data stays safe until you migrate
- Both V1 and V2 JSON formats are supported
- Up to 100 prompts per folder (was limited in V1)
- Download a backup before migrating (recommended)
- You can import the same backup multiple times
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose my prompts?
No. Your V1 data stays in local storage until you choose to migrate. The migration copies your data to the cloud - it doesn't delete anything.
I'm logged in on the website but the extension asks me to log in
The website and extension have separate logins. Being logged into rightclickprompt.com doesn't automatically log you into the extension. Open the extension panel (puzzle icon → RCP icon) and log in there separately. Your prompts will sync once both are connected.
I can't find the Export button
First, make sure your extension is updated: go to chrome://extensions/ and click 'Update' at the top. Then open the extension panel (puzzle icon → RCP icon). The Export button is at the bottom of the panel.
Where are my V1 prompts stored?
Your V1 prompts are saved in your browser's local storage. They stay there safely until you migrate. The migration process copies (not moves) your data to the cloud, so you won't lose anything.
What if import fails?
Check that your file is valid JSON. Try re-exporting from the extension. If you still have issues, join our Discord or email [email protected].
Can I use both V1 and V2?
V2 is the evolution of V1. Once you upgrade, the extension works in V2 mode with cloud sync. There's no separate V1 to go back to.
What about my folder organization?
Your folder structure is preserved exactly as it was. Folder names, prompt order, everything stays the same after migration.
